Bill C51 - inform yourself…then sign

I received this message a number of times and have been meaning to share it with you for a while now.  It is an online petition and a means to voice your opinion on Bill C51.  If you are unaware of this Bill, it is one which wants to place all natural health care products and nutritional supplements as “drugs” and would basically require all of them to meet the same tests and regulations as new, synthetic, man-made pharmaceuticals (please see below for further details).  This would result in largely removing the access of Canadians to the vast majority of such supplements.

On April 8, 2008, the Harper government introduced Bill C-51 as an amendment to the Food and Drugs Act. If passed into law, Canadians will no longer have the freedom to choose between pharmaceutical drugs and natural health products. The two categories we now have, namely drugs and natural health products, would be merged into one category called “therapeutic products”.

We must act NOW to stop Bill C-51 - Manitoba Rallies

Just got this from a friend…

I have read Bill C-51/C-52 and interpretations of Bill C-51/C52.
I have prepared this to alert all of my friends and their communities that we must unify our voices in as many ways as possible:

  • If you care to stand up for the right to choose what to eat for good health or bad health, and you want access to a wide variety of options

  • If you care to stand for the right to choose what you grow in your garden

Stop Canadian Bill C-51

‘(NaturalNews) Bill C-51 is a new law being pushed in Canada by Big Pharma seeks to outlaw up to 60 percent of natural health products currently sold in Canada, even while criminalizing parents who give herbs or supplements to their children. The law, known as C-51, was introduced by the Canadian Minister of Health on April 8th, 2008, and it proposes sweeping changes to Canada’s Food and Drugs Act that could have devastating consequences on the health products industry.

Among the changes proposed by the bill are radical alterations to key terminology, including replacing the word "drug" with "therapeutic product" throughout the Act, thereby giving the Canadian government broad-reaching powers to regulate the sale of all herbs, vitamins, supplements and other items. With this single language change, anything that is "therapeutic" automatically falls under the Food and Drug Act. This would include bottled water, blueberries, dandelion greens and essentially all plant-derived substances.
