Among the changes proposed by the bill are radical alterations to key terminology, including replacing the word "drug" with "therapeutic product" throughout the Act, thereby giving the Canadian government broad-reaching powers to regulate the sale of all herbs, vitamins, supplements and other items. With this single language change, anything that is "therapeutic" automatically falls under the Food and Drug Act. This would include bottled water, blueberries, dandelion greens and essentially all plant-derived substances.
At the same time that C-51 is outlawing herbs, supplements and vitamins, it would grant alarming new "enforcement" powers to the thugs enforcement agents who claim to be "protecting" the public from dangerous unapproved "therapeutic agents" like, say, dandelion greens. • Raid your home or business without a warrant
• Seize your bank accounts
• Levy fines up to $5 million and a jail terms up to 2 years for merely selling an herb
• Confiscate your property, then charge you storage fees for the expense involved in storing all the products they stole from you
Bill C-51 would even criminalize the simple drying of herbs in your kitchen to be used in an herbal product, by the way. That would now be categorized as a "controlled activity," and anyone caught engaging in such "controlled activities" would be arrested, fined and potentially jailed. Other "controlled activities" include labeling bottles, harvesting plants on a farm, collecting herbs from your back yard, or even testing herbal products on yourself! (Yes, virtually every activity involving herbs or supplements would be criminalized…)"

Since Clement is federal health minister, it takes as little as 6 months for new drugs to be approved by Health Canada - when it used to take an average of 5 years of clinical research until new medications were approved in Canada.
Tony Clement surely knew that he wouldn’t be federal health minister for 5 years, so it surely looks like he is abusing of his pharmaceutical interests and powers, and that he’s going to make it the most profitable for him.

It would appear that our rights are being significantly eroded by Bill C-51.
My way of life and business as a home-based small manufacturer and effective skincare product designer is being seriously threatened.
I have written to my MLA, MP, other MPs and ‘The Current’ CBC program.
Not sure what else I can do. This is unbelievable!

Wow… I’m not sure where to begin.
First, whether or not Bill C-51 is enacted, 60% of the products will be taken off the market. This is dictated by policy, not law, and the regulations as they stand now are strict enough that most license submissions will fail.
I wonder, would a parent be negligent if they gave their child unprescribed demerol?, how about prozac, lithium bromide, Tylenol #3’s. Natural doesn’t necessarily mean safe, so yes, parents are expected to use good judgement when deciding what to give their kids. I don’t expect there is a reasonable parent out there who would want to see their 4 year old on a couple of fat burner pills.
Health Canada already has the authority to raid a business, or home if it’s being used as a business without a warrant, just like many other government agencies, both federal and provincial.
No reasonable person would believe they will be arrested, jailed and fined for drying oregano in their kitchen, or even green tea that they plan on grinding up and taking as a supplement. If ever it were to happen, it would make those people quite rich after a successful lawsuite - that’s not the point of this law.
They can already seize your bank account, but under a different Act, and the fine is designed for businesses who sell products illegally, and is in line with most other federal and provincial fines for such activities (environment, health and safety, etc)
Don’t get me wrong, I’m in the industry, and I don’t like a lot of what it contains, and a lot of it doesn’t make much sense, but like so many things, information is often taken out of context to further someone elses agenda.

What will happen to the Elders that use the natural herbs for the cultural ceremonies….will they get sent to jail with a fine. What more do they want to take.
These herbs have been used from generations to generations. This is very sad to see that they are trying to take away our way in life

Why are people protesting?
The government could designate any natural health product as a prescription
drug making it available by prescription only (Section15.1) placing greater strain
on our already overwhelmed healthcare system. Bill C-51 could increase health
costs by limiting Canadians choice of Natural Health Products.
Bill C-51 is promoted as a means to protect the safety of Canadians from
untested natural health products. At the present time, pharmaceuticals are being
passed faster then ever before without adequate time for testing and clinical
research. Natural health products and therapeutic foods that have been histori-
cally used safely for 1000ʼs of years could be potentially pulled from shelves and
subject to strict licensing requirements. Bill C-51 is too vague. “New” definitions
are open for interpretation. Bill C-51 favours pharmaceutical drug and medical
treatments.
We must ensure that every Canadian have the right to protect their own health
naturally and are given time to react and suggest alternatives to Bill C-51.

Regarding the proposed Bill C-51.
I was diagnosed with follicular non-hodgkins lymphoma ( a type of cancer) in July of 2007- there were three tumours in my neck, and a small presence of the cancer in the bone marrow. I was referred to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre here in Calgary, Alberta. They wanted me to undergo chop- r treatment, which is chemotherapy plus I believe Rituximab.
I studied into the subject in great detail, and took in their free educational class on chemotherapy they offered.
I opted for the holistic approach to treating this matter, but have kept the option of chemotherapy open. We do have a choice in these matters - still. I made changes to my diet, and after careful research chose natural supplements to help build up my health and immune system. These were purchased primarily at some of our local Calgary health food stores. I take many of these - around 25 or more. Have opted for the shot gun approach in self-treatment - taking more regular doses of many different kinds of supplements that have a reputation of fighting cancer, or building up the immune system. With the hope that at least one of these will work.
My blood tests have so far always come out as normal. I have no symptoms other than the tumours in my neck. My energy level is good. I have resisted the immense pressure to undergo chemo.
In Feb. 2008 I had a body ct-scan and there is no spreading of the cancer and the three tumours were basically stagnant - since July 2007. In the month of March 2008 I noticed the larger tumour had gone down a lot. Now in May 2008 it is I would say a good 1/3 (one third) to 1/2 (one half) the size it was in July 2007. The smaller ones are so tiny now I can hardly feel where they are anymore.
All that matters to me is if the treatment works effectively and efficiently. The holistic approach is working. The tumour is going down. So I am catiously optimistic.
You know for me when I am hiring or asking someone to do a job - all that matters for me is if the person doing the job gets it done properly and effectively and efficiently. The race, age, religion, sex, colour, ethnic background, of the person hired is irrelevant to me - can they get the job done is what is important. I don’t care if they are fat, skinny, short or tall - can they get the job done properly and effectively without breaking the bank - is all that counts for me.
It is the same in my treatment of this cancer. Does the treatment work in a safe and effective manner ? I looked into chop-r and there are too many potential harmful hazards involved. Too many potential negative side effects. So I chose to take the holistic approach, and take a lot of supplements. So far the changes in diet, and the natural supplements from the health food store are working just fine.
This proposed Conservative Bill C-51 is a dangerous piece of legislation, which if passed will greatly reduce our freedom of choice regarding treatment of our health issues. The intrusive, controlling nanny-state must be reined in before it destroys us.

To pass this bill would be ridiculous and also dangerous to the health of people who rely on natural health products. I am a lupus sufferer. I have seen lots of doctors and can only be prescribed medications that are going to give me serious side effects as well. There is currently no known cause of lupus. What I can say is that 2 years ago, (when my major symptons first started) out of frustration with the lack of help/knowledge from medical doctors, I went to a health food store. I was given much knowledge of what contributes to diseases, and how to take better care of myself, and what foods to avoid. I was also told of a herbal supplement that actually helps improve your lupus symptons, and it’s called black walnut drops. It was $12.99 for a bottle! I take a variety of vitamin supplements, and salmon, flax, vit “E” oils, and the cost for all this is about $60.00 every 2 months.
Now, I get my prescriptions covered (most of them) so this isn’t a concern of mine, but I cant help but notice that all the pills and creams avereage out about $30.00 - $50.00 a tube of cream, to $50.00 for each bottle of pills. When you add up all the bottles and creams, it all sums up to about $300.00 a month. Now I dont have to pay for this bill, because it is being covered by tax payers. Do you think that makes me feel good? It doesn’t. It bugs the heck out of me, because I strongly believe there are causative factors to diseases. And the mainstream medical doctors treat mainly symptons of diseases. Over time, this could add up to thousands of dollars in just the treatment of 1 persons illness.
Instead, treating the actual underlying cause can actually be much cheaper, and prolong a persons life. It has made my quality of life way much better. I also have known people who have overcome their disease and tumors, just by treating themselves or getting the help of natural pathic doctos. I plan on beating this disease, and not letting it take over my life. Just like many other people who are beating cancer, without the treatment of the mainstream medical doctors.
I think that if this law passes then I would most likely be charged with a criminal offence, since I buy them, & I also grow my own herbs/plants, and dry & freeze my herbs for future use as well, & I use them in teas. If this is all taken away from me, I would cry. Oh, dear creator, I just hope and pray that they dont take this right away from us!

I know it will be hard for the average person to believe what I am about to type here… It has to happen to you personally before you will believe. I am not a radical, just a survivor.
This Bill C51 is just another control device which they can sell to the general population by pretending it is to protect the general population, in reality it is another chain on the general populations independance and freedom.
I believe that the “big pharma” and their “company in kind” DO want excessive contol over us, the general population. There is a co-operative effort from powerful people to dumb down and control the general population.
The following will explain why I feel the above statement is truth.
I have come to this conclusion NOT from reading propaganda, but from real life experiences, disturbing real life experiences.
I was nearly killed by an individual (by faking an accident) who was INSTRUCTED to perform the task. I was then harassed, belittled and purposely exposed to excessive x-rays at the hospital by people who were told to watch out for me. Do not believe it?
Neither did I… until later when I asked questions, and they exposed themselves by lying about events that I know occured because I had lived them. “They” are not worried that I know about their obvious lies. “They” are also not worried about my knowledge about the other criminal acts they have committed. “They” have the power. Who are “they”?
In my case… it is family. Family that live by a different code that I can not understand let alone accept. So they want me gone. Just gone. Dead, or I run away, they do not care, just gone.
They are what I call incestoids, people that believe in having sex with their children so they are better perpared for life. An advantage over the general population. It took me nearly 30 years to catch on to this primitive and tribal philosophy that they live by. When I reviewed my past I saw the many times they tried to mutate me to their thinking. I also know that the incestoid way of life is powerful, growing and has been around for a very long time. My greatgrandma drugged me to sleep when I was 5 or 6 yrs old, some kind of test I assume.
I recall when in high school (late 70’s) my mother MADE me attend an after hours class that was supposed to be some type of leadership course. The first class I attended lasted 5 minutes. When I joked about their introduction of Cleopatra and how sex??? ruled the civilized masses at the time, the class was immediately terminated. I recall everybody being in a nervous state and everyone quickly and quietly left. I recall the teacher/priest saying to the exiting students that they cannot hold meetings in the school again. I only relate this to you to show why I know there is organization behind this incestoid culture. Believe you me… it exists and they rule. As my grandfather use to say, only 10% of the population are awake/aware… and that 10% rules. Today I know he was talking about the incestoid culture, not a bunch of go getters. A very exclusive club in that they support each other while appearing to be disconnected from each other.
There exists today this fundamental divisiveness in Canadian (and US) society that many are not aware of.
I still have alot of questions but I do know the incestuous people in my family are into pharmacy, insurance, and are business owners. They are all successful and in controlling positions. They are heavily involved in politics.
I am striving to get out of North America because I feel it is ruled by this small culture of incestoids for at least the last 100 years. So I say once again…

This is a copy of a letter that I wrote to Steven Harper and Tony clement: Bill C-51 MUST be stopped!
The long range consequences of this bill on our grandchildren and great grandchildren are devasting. It is inconceivable that our government could have people who would conceive such a diabolical plan, let alone draft it into a bill. The very idea of being able to restrict our food supply (vitamins and herbs), enter our homes, sieze our property without a warrant is an invasion into our civil liberties. Is this action not similar to a Nazi regime? Is this not a heavy handed tactic of a totalitarian rule and start of antics that leaves only to the imagination the horrors of what is coming? Is history repeating itself?
Is it not a fact to take away our rights, our freedom of choice, to give more profits to the pharmaceutical companies, a crime? Is this not like Naxi Germany during the world wars? Is this where our country is going? Backwards? To the dark ages? What is next - book burning? The broad implications of this bill is unlimited, it must be stopped. The health care system is burdened down now, what will it be like if everyone has to go and get a presciption for Vitamin C?
No one has the right to choose for me what my form of medical treatment is - either traditional or non-traditional. I am a breast cancer survivor thanks to the herbs and vitamins I have chosen to on. I did my own research and I resent someone who knows nothing about it, dictating to me and then handing me a death sentence by banning and taking away my life support - the herbs and vitamins that I use on a daily basis. HOW DARE THEY DO THIS!!!!!!
As my elected representative you do not have my premission to surrender my will and freedom of choice to the pharmaceutical compainies.

It is the picture from a country taken over by the dictatorship. They who seat on the high chairs, know better than us what we need. Nobody asks bout the the public opinion? Like the NAFTA, which was signed without any approval and opinion of people who live in this country. What is comming next?
The healthminister and his bureaucrats should take really serioously their jobs and eliminate all toxins and poisons, which are used in this country by food grovers and producers by their approval. We had good, tasty natural food, free education, free of stress life, no debts and visas. And we were so stupied, because we were complaining about political issues.

Mamy of these poisons were created by Nazis, to kill the human beeing. This is more of the same. Control the population any way we can so we can do what we want in government and among other things make lots of money in the process. I will not have my choice for my health and well being dictated by Health Canada. This is the Health Minister serving his own interests and those of big Pharna. This is taking away choices that to me are enshrined by our constitution. We should rise up before it is too late. This sort of thing is what happened in Nazi Germany.

I am totally against implementing bill C-51 it would be totally wrong to categorize natural health products with the same provisions as drugs and pharmaceuticals, as those are dangerous and have broad ranged side effects.
We want to look after our own health without the use of drugs and by using supplements and herbs that have been in use for thousands of years without negative side effects or interactions.
They need to remove health food products from under the same blanket as drugs and pharmaceuticals. We will be strongly opposed to this bill c-51 and vigilant in stopping it all all costs.
