I received this message a number of times and have been meaning to share it with you for a while now. It is an online petition and a means to voice your opinion on Bill C51. If you are unaware of this Bill, it is one which wants to place all natural health care products and nutritional supplements as “drugs” and would basically require all of them to meet the same tests and regulations as new, synthetic, man-made pharmaceuticals (please see below for further details). This would result in largely removing the access of Canadians to the vast majority of such supplements.
While generally quite benign, I do believe some of these products need to have some form of regulation (natural foods accepted), and a means for achieving this was apparently decided upon many years ago – they need to have THEIR OWN set of regulations; but they certainly DO NOT need to be lumped together with pharmaceuticals. Some of these natural remedies have been around for hundreds and even thousands of years, and are MUCH less damaging and toxic than pharmaceuticals. Requiring them to have to pass the same tests and fall under the same regulations as highly toxic drugs that we just created and want to unleash on the world, is really quite ridiculous.
My family has benefited tremendously in the past years by pursuing more natural health care choices, and I would hate to see these become unavailable and/or taken over by large pharmaceuticals. Our health care system works somewhat backwards in North America – we would much rather focus on healing sick, then on maintaining health…but maintaining health is far most cost effective…and much more fun! On April 8, 2008, Bill C-51 was introduced into the House of Commons by The Canadian Health Minister, The Honourable Tony Clement. Bill C-51 passed its first reading on April 9th. It is now scheduled to go to second reading on May 8, 2008. (To read up on how Bills are passed into Laws, click here)
What is Bill C-51?
Bill C-51 will amend the current Food and Drugs Act and will make consequential amendments to other Acts AUTOMATICALLY. Bill C-51 will have a major impact on natural health in Canada and restrict the choices Canadian people have when it comes to their health and choice to purchase health products. Greetings one and all! This is our first e mail to you all and it’s a call to action for our community. It is a time for us to show what we can do, as the people, to protect our rights. In this case, it is about the right to use the gifts of nature to heal ourselves and each other. Please take the time to read this e mail, for yourself and future generations. Please spread the word, and follow up with action.
As many of you are already aware, the conservative government, lead by Tony Clement and Health Canada, is putting forward a bill that is of grave concern to all Canadians. Bill C-51 will make changes to the basic structure of our democracy, creating opportunities for corporate pharmaceutical interests to flourish, while the lay people loose our rights to natural medicine.
This is an excellent opportunity for the power of the people to shine! Please take action by calling and writing your MP. If they are going to vote in favor of the bill, ask them why they chose a career in politics. Was it to deepen their pockets, or did they actually have the intention to help people? If they are going to vote against the bill, then by all means, encourage them to continue to support the needs of the people, and thank them for upholding our common human rights.
The Health Minister, Tony Clement has a vested interest in this bill passing. He is a large share holder of Prudential Chem. which supplies several pharmaceutical companies, and so therefore should be asked to step down from his position as Health Minister.

As much as this is a pressing issue for those of us who practice natural medicine, our motivation for taking action here is due to our love of all people, and of course, the amazing plants that provide so much food and medicine for us all. Try taking ginger for strength and stamina, nettle for nourishment and support, and rose for open hearts and trust…and give thanks!
We have seen this play before, so many times in history. What have we learned? Do not give in to fear! This is our chance to shine! We are the PEOPLE! We are on the brink of WORLD PEACE! Its time to TAKE ACTION!
